 CLI Dante Alighieri - Rome
The Rome Language Center of the Dante Alighieri group was formed in 1981 and specializes in teaching Italian language and culture to students from all over the world. The original school was set up in Florence in 1965 ñ making it Italy's first private language school specializing in this kind of instruction - and today the Centro Linguistico Italiano Dante Alighieri has grown to include a number of other centres as well. The Italian Ministry for Education and Scientific Research also recognizes the schoolís high caliber instruction. It is open all the year round.
The Center is situated in an early 20th Century building at 1, Piazza Bologna and can be reached easily from the city centre and from all other areas of the city. It is on the B line of the underground and on numerous bus routes. Classrooms are spacious and bright and are all air-conditioned. There is an ample terrace where students gather during spring, summer and autumn terms to enjoy the fresh air during break-times.
Members of the administrative staff are: Giulia Savona, the Director of Administration (clidar@tin.it; (+39) 06 4423 1400), with twenty years experience with CLIDA, who handles general organisation; Fabrizio Fucile, Director of Studies, (fucile@clidante.it (+39) 06 4424 8177) who has taught Italian and Latin since 1990, with a specialisation in Italian Studies, in which he did his research degree, and who looks after the academic side as well as handling relations with overseas study institutes; Elena Lachin, Head of Student Affairs (info@clidante.it; (+39) 06 4423 1490) who looks after Student Administration.
At our school, the method employed integrates a grammatical as well as interactive approach and highlights communication throughout the class. It is important to know not only the grammatical structure of a language, but also have the ability to communicate this structure to the students. All our teachers are graduates in literary or linguistic subjects and all have a good knowledge of at least one foreign language (although this is not an essential requirement for our teaching method). There are teachers on the staff who speak English, French, German, Spanish, Japanese and Arabic fluently. All faculty members have followed training courses for the teaching of Italian as a foreign language held at our Centre every year.
Why Study in Rome?
Rome is undoubtedly one of the most important historic, artistic, and cultural cities in the world. The city is called ëeternalí as it served a capital of kingdoms, republics and empires of the Western World. It is also the physical and spiritual centre of the Roman Catholic Church and holds some of the wordís greatest treasures. A student will find themselves gazing upon works created by the Worldís masters such as Michelangelo and Bernini, awed by the magnificence of the Colloseum, and dazzled by the splendour of St. Peterís Basilica. To list all of Romeís countless important treasures would be impossible, when one keeps in mind that the city contains works from its Ancient, Medieval, Renaissance past as well as its contributions to modern art and culture. Through study in Rome, students also enjoy living in a major European city, with its countless bars, discos, pubs and cafes. Evenings can be spent viewing a concert in one of the many churches that spot the city or take in a movie (in either English or Italian). The summer months are teeming with art and music festivals (Estate Romana which is a series of open-air events including concerts, theatre, music, films, dancing), which are enjoyed in the delightful evening air! The possibilities are endless.
Romeís location in central Italy works well for students who want to explore other Italian cities. Day trips to Florence and Naples are easily enjoyed, for example.
